Corvus 85 Enfield 71
Royston senior Basketball team, Corvus Cornix, continued their fine form this season on Friday night in the East Herts Basketball League at Wodson Park in Ware. Corvus played rivals Enfield for the 4th time this season looking to continue their dominance having not lost to them so far. The game started off very poorly for the Royston side with early turnovers and lack of communication on defence giving the advantage to Enfield. Some poor outside shooting saw Corvus struggle and if it wasn’t for some excellent inside play from centre Nathan Wilson (17) from the passing of Guard Dennis Gragasin (6), Corvus would have gone into the break even further behind, trailing by 14 points, 33-47.
The second needed to be better and got off to a blistering start as Corvus started to chip away at the lead with the help from the all round play of forward Ashley Judge (15) scoring from the perimeter and defensively stopping the opposition. There was improved shot accuracy with shooting guard Ben Russell (25) finding his range with a succession of three point shots, to which Enfield had no answer. Young centre Sam Robinson (9) increased in confidence with some vital offensive rebounds resulting in some close scores and drawing fouls, taking him to the free throw line. Despite a late rally from Enfield the turnaround was complete with the result being put beyond doubt with forward Richard Pallant (13) sinking a three pointer in the final few seconds to leave Corvus victorious again winning the second half by 27 points, 85-71.

Corvus BAck to winning ways with overtime win
Corvus 84 AA 82
Royston senior Basketball team, Corvus Cornix, got back to winning ways on Friday night in the East Herts Basketball league at Wodson Park in Ware, beating AA. After the agonising defeat in the last few seconds last week a youthful side started well determined to get the club a victory. Junior players Matthew Davis (21) and Adam Breeze (5) started with confidence getting some early 3 pointers on the scoreboard. Young centre Josh Conley (13) improved throughout the half and despite being out of his comfort zone hit a huge three pointer. The good start, however, went wrong in the final few minutes of the half losing the hard earned 6 point lead going in at the break 37-34 down.
During the second half, Corvus battled hard to regain the lead but some lapse defending let the opposition back in. Some steady scoring from player coach Richard Pallant (16) and excellent post play from Sam Robinson (12) kept Corvus insight and within 2 points with a minute to play. Jacek Chorosz (15) stepped up with the game saving shot in the last few seconds to take the game into overtime. The lead was swapped back and forth during a frantic extra 2 minutes with free throws from Pallant and Conley tying the game up before Chorosz hit the winning shot with not enough time for the opposition to reply, leaving Corvus on the right end of a close score line this week, winning 84-82.
Matt Davis (21), Richard Pallant (16), Jacek Chorosz (15), Josh Conley (13), Sam Robinson (12), Adam breeze (5)

Corvus Suffer Agonising 1 Point Defeat
Russells Hoops 88 Corvus 87
The Corvus Cornix senior Basketball team suffered defeat for only the second time this season in a very close encounter against unbeaten rivals Russell Hoops. Corvus were slow out of the blocks, allowing a very good outside shooting team too much time in dangerous positions meaning Corvus were playing catch up from the start of the game. Nathan Wilson steadied the ship (27) with the Hoops unable to cope with his strong play under the basket from excellent ball movement from debuting guard Dennis Gragasin (6). Despite some vital points coming from Richard Pallant (11) and Ashley Judge (9), Corvus went in at half time 7 points down, 48-41.
The half time break did not do Corvus any favours as another slow start and superior long range shootingfrom the opposition saw Corvus fall to 15 points behind. Junior players player of the season Sam Robinson (20) grew in confidence as the game wore on and Corvus started to really take advantage of the height difference that was in their favour, scoring some vital points close to the basket to chip away at the lead. As the clock ticked down further points from Matt Davis (7) and Jacek Chorosz (8) saw Corvus take the lead with under 2 minutes remaining for the first time in the game. Corvus lost the lead with only seconds remaining and despite having a chance to take the game to overtime lost out by just one point going down 88-87.
Nathan Wilson (27), Sam Robinson (20), Richard Pallant (11), Ashley Judge (9), Jacek Chorosz (8), Matt Davis (7), Dennis Gragasin (6)
Match report Friday 14th October
Corvus maintain winning run
Corvus 74 Cobras 66
Royston Basketball side Corvus Cornix continued their fine start to the season with a nervy win over Cobras at Wodson Park, Ware last Friday. Corvus started strongly with some free flowing passing and moving around the key, resulting in an early 8 point lead with the points coming from strong drives from Nathan Wilson (21) and Richard Pallant (10). Some sloppy ball handling in the oppositions half left the team susceptible to the fast break and this resulted in a comeback from the Cobras pulling back the deficit going into half time with the scores level at 37-37.
The team had a productive half time discussion for the second half tactics but were slow starting. Junior player Sam Robinson (6) grew in confidence throughout the game and this was rewarded from some strong moves under the basket and good defensive play. As the half progressed better use of the ball in the attacking half saw a lead develop through some good shooting and fast breakingfrom Jacek Chorosz (13) and strong post play from Josh Conley (10).
The game went into the final stages and Cobras piled on the pressure meaning a nervy finish, before a couple of solid three pointers from Ashley Judge (14) relieved the pressure and Corvus saw out the game by 8 points, winning 74-66 and seeing the clubs record move onto 4 wins and 1 defeat for the season.
Nathan Wilson (21), Ashley Judge (14), Jacek Chorosz (13), Richard Pallant (10), Josh Conley (10), Sam Robinson (6).

Corvus Run Riot over Enfield
Corvus Cornix Basketball team won their third consecutive game of the season against Enfield with an array of team passing the highlight. They travelled to Wodson Park with a mix of experience and youth as Under 17 Junior palyers Matt Davis, Sam Robinson and Adam Breeze all made their debut for the senior team.
The intensity from Corvus was clear from the off with the team scoring almost every other basket from a fast break with Ashley Judge (14) finishing off a number of these in the early stages. Matt Davis (10) showed real confidence driving to the basket and shooting on any occasion he found himself free. Corvus continued to keep the pressure on towards the end of the first half with Sam Robinson (10) creating a number of steals whilst marking the opposing point guard. This saw Corvus go into half time in a strong position leading 61-39.
The second half proved to be much of the same and despite a slow start, Robbie Connell (11) and Nathan Wilson (15) dominated the offensive a defensive boards not allowing Enfield a second opportunity to shoot. Debutant Adam Breeze came alive scoring all of his 12 points in the second half, including three 3-pointers. But in a display of real class, it was swift movement of the basketball that allowed Tom Guerrero to get himself free finishing the game with his tenth 3-pointer and overall score of 36 points seeing Corvus 108-69 winners.
Tom Guerrero (36), Nathan Wilson (15), Ashley Judge (14), Adam Breeze (12), Robbie Connell (11) Matt Davis (10), Sam Robinson (10).

Corvus 98 Evans Above 72
Second Half Superior for Corvus
Once again Royston Basketball team Corvus Cornix took to the courts of Wodson Park, Ware for their third Beer League Game of the season against Evans Above. Having won comprehensively the previous week with a solid team performance they went into the game with high hopes of a second consecutive win.
It was clear from the start that Corvus had a superiority of size over their opponents with 5 of their players at 6 foot 4 inches or taller and they made this tell in the first fifteen minutes opening a 10 point lead with Robbie Connell (12 points) showing an array of both outside shooting and creative play on offense. Despite the strong start, Corvus began to miss a number of shots and Evans Above used this to their advantage creating a 3 point lead at half time as Corvus went in 36-39 down.
It seemed clear that the first half was missing the kind of attacking team basketball that Corvus had used to such an affect the previous week and they made it their main aim to rediscover this. Evans started well but some strong defensive play from Josh Conly (14 points) and complete domination in the offensive paint by Nathan Wilson (28 points) started to turn the tables. Corvus began to pass the ball with real intent and purpose playing the kind of slick, fast paced basketball they would expect, Jacek Chorosz (12 points) with some strong outside shooting. Ashley Judge (15) and Ben Russell (17) boosted the score and helped the team to draw away from Evans by hitting eight 3 pointers between them and the latter showing some flare with a strong break away reverse dunk to cap off a thrilling second half performance from Corvus Cornix as they ran away 98-72 winners.
Nathan Wilson (28), Ben Russell (17), Ashley Judge (15), Josh Conly (14), Robbie Connell (12), Jacek Chorosz (12).
Match report for Friday 16th September 2011:
Enfield 68 Corvus 96
Corvus start the season strongly with win over rivals.
Royston Basketball side Corvus Cornix have started the new season well with an impressive victory, over rivals Enfield 96-68 at Wodson Park, Ware last Friday. With a few injuries within the squad, the team was short on numbers but put in a solid first half performance. This paid dividends with Corvus taking a 5 point lead into half time. 6ft 10in centre, Nathan Wilson was in superb form with some excellent post play and strong inside moves dominating both the offensive and defensive rebounds. A half time team talk from player coach Richard Pallant paid dividends as a strong start to the second half set the tone for the rest of the game. Junior assistant coach and player Josh Conley grew in confidence as the game progressed making excellent cuts to the basket scoring some impressive drives to the basket. Enfield looked tired as the game progressed and they struggled to cope with the fast passing and counter attacking play from Ashley Judge and Jacek Chorosz. The points were well shared with all of the starting five hitting double figures, with Ashley and Jacek top scoring with 25 and 32 points respectively. This meant the last part of the game was seen out without too much pressure and a very commanding 28 point victory.
